Infosys engineer arrested for secretly recording women in washroom

Infosys stated it has zero tolerance for such misconduct and is cooperating with authorities while supporting the complainant.

Infosys has dismissed Swapnil Nagesh Mali, a 30-year-old senior associate from Andhra Pradesh, following allegations that he secretly filmed women in a restroom without their consent.

The Electronics City police, on Wednesday, arrested the software engineer for allegedly filming his female colleagues in the company’s campus washroom.

Following a complaint by a victim, the police arrested Nagesh, charging him under Section 66e (violation of privacy through the capturing, publishing, or transmitting of images of a private area of a person without their consent) and Section 77 (offence of voyeurism) for further investigation.

The incident came to light on Monday when a female technical test lead at Infosys noticed a girl exiting a stall in the restroom and spotted a man’s reflection in the mirror, allegedly filming from the adjacent restroom.

Acting quickly, she climbed onto the commode and reportedly caught him red-handed attempting to record her on his mobile phone. She raised an alarm and ran out, prompting staff members to come to her aid.

According to the report, the HR staff apprehended the man and deleted the videos from his device. He had joined the company just three months prior. The police later recovered two videos from the phone’s ‘Deleted’ folder.

In a statement, the IT firm said, “We are aware of this incident and have taken necessary action against the employee, who is now separated from the company. We also promptly supported the complainant by facilitating a swift complaint with the law enforcement authorities and continue to cooperate as they investigate further. Infosys is committed to providing an environment free of harassment and has a zero-tolerance policy. We take every complaint related to any violation of the Company’s Code of Conduct seriously.”
